International Symposium in Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage

With 2013 being the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereafter “the 2003 Convention”), International Research Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI) hopes that this anniversary year will be a good opportunity to again draw the attention of international society to the promotion and safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (hereafter “ICH”) based on the 2003 Convention. In this context, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, “International Symposium in Celebration for the 10th Anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage” (hereafter “the International Symposium”) will be held on 3rd August 2013 by IRCI, Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan and Sakai City. The purpose of the International Symposium is to raise awareness of the importance of the safeguarding of ICH and disseminate understandings about the 2003 Convention and ICH. At the International Symposium, researchers and bearers of ICH, and specialists for the 2003 Convention from the Asia-Pacific region will participate to discuss on how the 2003 Convention works in the safeguarding of ICH and what is expected of the 2003 Convention in the safeguarding of ICH.
