International Conference on Implementing the 2003 Convention Tasks

27/28-09-2013 Gwangju city (République de Corée)

Ten years have passed since the adoption of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. In the past decade, States Parties, institutions, and communities in the Asia-Pacific region, which is well known as a repository of intangible cultural heritage, have developed various safeguarding activities at the national, regional, and international levels. Commemorating the tenth anniversary of the 2003 Convention, we would like to facilitate an international conference on good ways of implementing this Convention, reflecting on past safeguarding experience and the achievements of this Convention and seeking new tasks to be tackled. We would also like to look for effective ways to promote cooperation among Asia-Pacific countries to realise the aims of this Convention and to enhance the visibility and viability of intangible cultural heritage. The conference, organised by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea (CHA) and the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHCAP), is being supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and Gwangju City. It also takes place as part of cooperative programmes led by the Korea-China-Japan Cultural Ministers Meeting.
