Discipline: classical dance, modern dance, dance composition, folk dance. The host and partner institution: the School of the Hamburg Ballet, established in 1978 and directed by John Neumeier, is a state ballet school where young people from all over the world are trained for a professional dance career. The syllabus gives priority to classical/academic dance as well as to the techniques of modern and folk dance. Nature of the bursary: round trip travel, board and lodging for one school year, health insurance. Dates of the residency: September 2002-July 2003. Eligibility: talented and committed classical dancers between the ages of 16 and 18, from Eastern Europe (especially Russia). Working knowledge of French, English or German required. How to apply: apply directly to the School of the Hamburg Ballet at the above address by sending detailed curriculum vitæ indicating size and weight, recent photos in a dance pose, recent medical certificates of physical and mental health, two reference letters, a letter of intent, video cassettes (VHS) presenting recent performances or dance classes containing 2-3 exercises at the bar, in the middle, adage and pirouette, small and big jumps, small battery, points for girls, diagonal or manège and one or two variations. The dancers must be all by themeselves and easily identifiable. The tape must be in good condition and rewound (maximum length 20 min). Deadline: 30 April 2002.
