Residency at the Espace Sobo-Bade, Toubab Dialao, Senegal (3 months)

Discipline: choreography.

The host and partner institution: situated 50 km from Dakar, l'Espace Sobo-Bade is a multi-disciplinary arts centre created and headed by the playwright and sculptor Gérard Chenet. Its name is derived from Voodoo and means 'Welcome - Frankness'. The main activities of the Centre include courses in traditional African rythme and dance, opportunity to choreograph, performances of the experimental theatre, courses in batik technique for the beginners, symposiums in ceramics and sculpture.

Facilities provided: practice space, open air amphitheatre and a possibility to stage, in the course of the residency, a proposed choreography involving dancers trained at the Centre.

Nature of the bursary: round trip travel, board and lodging for three months. Possibility of extension if necessary. Artist must provide their health insurance.

Dates of the residency: to be fixed by mutual agreement.

Eligibility: professional choreographers under the age of 40. Working knowledge of French required.
