Discipline: classical dance (advanced level), pas de deux, modern and Spanish dance. Classical and contemporary répertoire. The host and partner institution: the Schweizerische Ballettberufsschule has been founded in 1986 and is the only subsidised professional ballet school in Switzerland. It offers a complete and extensive education programme and a professional infrastructure. One of the main goals of Heinz Spoerli, artistic director, and Alex Ursuliak, headmaster, is to provide a very thorough training programme as well as an overall understanding of ballet and theatre culture. Nature of the bursary: round trip travel, tuition, board and lodging for one school year (11 months). Possibility of prolon-gation if progress and development reports are very good. Artist must provide their health insurance. Dates of the residency: August 2002-July 2003. Eligibility: talented and committed classical dancers, between the ages of 16 and 18, preferably from Eastern Europe (especially Russia). Working knowledge of French, English or German required. How to apply: apply directly to the Schweizerische Ballett-berufsschule by sending a detailed curriculum vitæ with a picture taken in dance pose, a medical attest of physical and mental health and a video cassette on VHS presenting a recent performance containing 2-3 exercises at the bar, in the middle, adage and pirouette, small and big jumps, small battery, points for girls, diagonal or manège and one or two variations. The dancers must be easily identifiable and by themeselves. The tape must be in good condition and rewound (maximum length 20min). Deadline: 30 April 2002.
