Glass Flask

2nd-3rd century AD
Tell Abyad (Deir Al-Zor, Northern Syria, near Balikh Valley)

Many researchers believe that Syria is one of the first regions of all times which became famous for its glass industry. From the discovered examples of ancient Syrian glass, we find many methods of production, with many decoration techniques, including cutting and trimming, incising, painting, and illuminating with gold, metallic lustre, or enamels etc.

This object is a vessel produced through inflating into a carved mold where the body is imprinted with the design. Here the design is a radiating flower, which is imprinted on both sides of the vessel. And then the artist adds the handles which connect between the rim and the shoulder of the vessel.
