Water Taps and Valves
This item is an example of the different types of valves that were installed at the various public fountains in Lisbon. These fountains had an essential role in daily life until the late 19th century. However, when Companhia das Aguas de Lisboa (nowadays EPAL) was created and the Barbadinhos Steam Pumping Station inaugurated it was possible to distribute water to every household.
Nevertheless, many of these fountains continued supplying water until mid-20th century.
