Professor Dora Akunyili is Federal Republic of Nigeria's
Honourable Minister of Information and Communications.
Accordingly, she is a UNESCO Partner Minister.

Commendably, her Re-branding Nigeria Project was launched in
Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday 17 March, 2009 by Vice-President
Goodluck Jonathan who represented President Umaru Musa
Yar'Adua. The watchword for her Re-branding Nigeria Project
is. "Nigeria: Good People, Great Nation." The Re-branding
Nigeria project watchword and logo were created by Mr.
Chike Obika.



Born in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria on 14 July 1954 to
Chief and Mrs. Paul Young Edemobi, she is married to Dr.
Chike John Akunyili, a Medical Professional; and they are
blessed with six children and a grand child.

Prior to Wednesday 17 December, 2008, Professor Akunyili
served, outstandingly, for eight years and eight months,
as Director-General of Nigeria's National Agency for Food,
Drug Administration and Control [NAFDAC]. She holds a
1985 Ph.D. from University of Nigeria, Nsukka [UNN].
At UNN, she was Senior Lecturer plus Consultant
Pharmacologist in the College of Medicine; and was ranked
a Professor in October 2000. On 18 July 2006, University
of Bristol, United Kingdom awarded Professor Akunyili the
degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

Also, She has supervised Ph.D and Masters candidates at
UNN and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State,
Nigeria; as well as supervising six Postgraduate students
in the College of Medicine: UNN; including being Chief
Examiner in Pharmacology for third M.B.B.S at the
College of Medicine, Abia State University Uturu, Nigeria.

Notably, Professor Akunyili is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at
the University of London. She is also a Fellow of the West
African Post-Graduate College of Pharmacists; and holds a
Certificate on Senior Management Skills from the Royal
Institute of Public Administration: London.

Accordingly, Professor Akunyili belongs to numerous
international professional organizations, amongst which
are: New York Academy of Sciences, International Union of
Pharmacology and International Pharmaceutical Federation.

She has been manifoldly honoured, within Nigeria and
globally, with well over Five hundred and forty
awards and recognitions - including from Nigeria Union
of Journalists [NUJ], Transparency International, Time
Magazine New York, International Chamber of Commerce,
International Pharmaceutical Federation, European
Marketing Research Centre [EMRC] Belgium, African
Institute for Democracy and Good Governance, Catholic
Church in Nigeria, African Biographical Network,
National Association of Nigerian Students [NANS],
African Cultural Institute with Zenith Bank Plc, as
well as International Service, from where she got the
prestigious Human Rights Award which she received at
the House of Commons in London, etc.

Commendably, Professor Akunyili holds one of Nigeria's
National Honours titled: Order of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria [OFR].
