Mr. John Oga Odey, who is married to Mary Alache
Odey; and is blessed with four children, was
sworn in to serve as Nigeria's Honourable
Minister of Information and Communications
on 26 July, 2007 by President Umaru
Musa Yar'Adua.

Mr. Odey was born on 1 November, 1959 in Yala,
Cross River State of Nigeria. He is a graduate
of the University of Calabar from where he
obtained a Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] in
Banking and Finance.

Mr. John Odey was Commissioner for Agriculture
in Cross River State from August 2003 to July
2005. He has had a very rich experience in the
private sector and particularly in industries
where he held several posts with important and
varied responsibilities. They include work at
the level of Group Operation Officer, Project
Manager, Project Coordinator, Finance
Syndication Manager, Pioneer Acting General
Manager and Managing Director.

Mr. Odey's experience in business and industries
include: General Manager, Artoliti Systems and
Services where he was engaged in the overall
management of a soap production plant
[1996 - 1998]. Between 1992 and 1995 he was
General Manager Tofamid Industries Limited; and
was responsible for the establishment and
management of a Computer Technical Service
supply outlet as well as a Training School.

Between 1991 and 1992 Mr. Odey was responsible
for the procurement and installation of a soap
manufacturing plant as the Project Manager for
Artoliti. Before then he had been the General
Manager of Tofamid Farms Limited from 1988 to
1991.

Mr. Odey's working experience, in addition to
his long connection with commerce and industries,
is also in the field of information, publicity
and media administration. He was the National
Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic
Party [PDP] and the Director of Publicity for
his Party’s National Campaign Council. He is
the chairman of the News Agency of Nigeria
[NAN]; and was the pioneer Acting General
Manager of the South-South Express
Communications Limited, responsible for
the establishment and management of the
South-South Newspaper.
