An educationist of long experience in teaching, Dr. Aja-Nwachuku
taught in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) before
going into Secondary School teaching between 1979 and 1984. Dr.
Aja-Nwachuku went into university teaching in 1984 and lectured
successively (1984 - 2006), at Abia State University in Uturu
and at the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (2006 - 2007)
from where he retired to go into politics. Dr. Aja-Nwachuku
was a candidate for the Governorship primaries during the
2007 election in Nigeria.

Born in 1952 in Ebonyi State in Nigeria, Dr. Aja-Nwachuku holds
degrees from Universities of Ibadan, Nigeria, Calabar and Anambra.
He has a B.Sc. in Statistics, an MBA in Finance, an M.Sc. in
Statistics and he is the first recipient of a Doctorate degree
(Ph.D.) in Economics with specialization in Economics and
Monetary Economics at the University of Calabar. He also obtained
a Post-graduate Diploma in Computer Science and Technology from
the Anambra State University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Aja-Nwachuku has always been very active in professional
and academic pursuits; and has participated in conferences. He
has also presented papers in fields ranging from Business
Finance, Youth, Local Government, to Leadership and Economic
Development. Member of Professional bodies and University
Committees, Dr. Aja-Nwachuku has been, amongst others: Member
of Students Welfare Board, Member of Senate, Member of
University Governing Council, Member, Emergency Management
Committee and Convener of the Academic Staff Code of Conduct
Committee.

Dr. Aja-Nwachuku’s publications, which include journals,
research papers, chapters in books and conference papers,
deal with various questions amongst them: Statistics,
Education, Finance, Banking, Distance Education,
Development, Youth and adolescents, Revenue generation,
Local Government legislation, Population and training
for Local Government leadership.

Apart from three unpublished thesis in Finance, Statistics
and Banking, the following two completed works by Dr.
Aja-Nwachuku are now being finalized for publication:
"Fundamentals of Financial Management" and "Fundamentals
of Business and Economic Statistics". Accordingly,
Dr. Aja-Nwachuku is married and has six children. Dr. Igwe
Aja-Nwachuku became Nigeria's Federal Minister of
Education on 26 July 2007. And as Education Minister,
Dr. Aja-Nwachuku is also President: Nigerian National
Commission for UNESCO.
