Dr. Agada's career as a professional teacher started in
1974. He taught at Government College Keffi (1974 - 77),
Government College, Makurdi (1977 - 79) and at the Nigerian
Youth Service Corp (NYSC) where he was Head of the
Department of Business Studies from 1984 - 1985.
Successively, he was Head of Department of Business
Studies at Government College, Makurdi (1985 - 87), became
Vice Principal of the College in 1987, Acting Principal
from 1987-1988 and Principal of the College in 1988.

Born in 1952, in Orokam, Ogbadibo Local Government Area,
Benue State, Dr. Anthony Jerry Agada, holds a Bachelor's
Degree in Education from the University of Exeter, a
Master of Commerce from the University of Stathclyde,
Glasgow, Scotland and a Ph.D. in Public Sector Management.
He also studied at the Post Graduate School of Stanton
University in Florida (USA) and at the School of Public
Policy of the University of Birmingham. He holds a
Technical Teachers Certificate and a Certificate in
Managing, Contracting and Partnership for Service
Delivery.

In 1992 Dr. Agada was appointed to the Teaching Service
Board of Benue State as Guidance Counsellor and Principal,
Special Grade. Between 1993 and 1996 he was Principal,
(Special Grade) of the Government College, Utonkon, Benue
State, and he became the Executive Secretary of the Benue
State Examinations Board in 1996.

From 1999 Dr. Agada was Permanent Secretary of several
Ministries in Benue State: Ministry of Information,
Youth, Sports and Culture (1999 - 2000) Ministry of
Education (2000 - 2001) Ministry of Local Government
and Chieftaincy Affairs (2001-2006)

A sportsman and a prolific writer, Dr. Agada is a
National Vice President of the Association of
Nigerian Authors. His publications, apart from
several articles in national and international
journals, include "The Magic Year: Poetry in
Prose and Rhymes" (1996), "The Secret Deal", a
collection of short stories (1998), "Rage and Tears"
(2002), "The Holy Land: Encounters and Symbolism"
(2005), "Five hundred Nigerian Poets" (2005) and
"The Successors" (2007).

Dr. Agada's services to his State Government and to
his community include: chairman of the State
Petroleum Monitoring Committee (1999 - 2000) and
Member of the Benue State Reform Team. He also
served for several years as the Secretary General
of the Orokam Aroji Summit and as Chairman of the
Benue State Chapter of the Nigerian Association
of Business Educators. Dr. Agada is married and
has five children.
