PROJECT STATUS:	Information concerning the legislation of other countries has been gathered for the Palestinian authorities concerned . Emergency regulations have been prepared and approved in some towns . Preparatory missions have taken place with assistance of the French Government .
DURATION:	12 months after obtention of funds .
TOTAL BUDGET:	US $ 420,000.00 .
FUNDS SECURED TO DATE:	US $ 20,000,00 .
ADDITIONAL FUNDS REQUIRED:	US $ 400,000,00 .

• Background and Justification: Cultural heritage constitutes a major asset in the development of the Palestinian Autonomous Territories. It needs to be protected as a matter of urgency, preserved and enhanced and suitable legal measures and administrative arrangements will be installed for this purpose .
• Objectives: The establishment of a legal unit in the Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism for the protection of cultural heritage and the adoption of a general legislation and a series of regulations covering specific aspects of this field .
• Main activities: Analysis of existing legislative and regulatory texts; preparation of emergency legal texts; organisation of workshops to draft legislative texts; and training in the application of the legislation .
