Background and Justification:
Jericho possesses many archaeological sites corresponding to a very long period of human civilisation in Palestine. The preservation of Palestinian historical. cultural and religious heritage will serve to promote the region socio-economic development. in particular through its tourism potential. Four priority sites - Tell Al Sultan, Jisr Abu Ghannouch. Tell Abul Alayek and Khirbat Al Mafiar - representing various periods. have been selected for this purpose, because of their historical and cultural value .
Objectives:
Capacity building for the preservation of archaeological sites and the restoration of mosaics. Training of:
1)
specialists in the field of restoration and conservation of mosaics.
2)
guards to protect the sites .
3)
tourist guides Publications for both the general public and specialists.
Main activities:
Preparation, restoration and management of four archaeological sites: training of 100 unemployed young people in activities related to the development of archaeological sites: publication of tourist leaflets and of a monograph .
