• Background and Justification:
  A preliminary study, carried out by a UNESCO mission in the West Bank and Gaza Strip in December 1994, showed that a broad base of activities in numerous handicraft fields exists. Their development. however, is severely hampered by:
  1)the absence of product adaptation and quality control;
  2)unduly high prices due to heavy taxation on imported raw materials; and
  3)inefficient marketing strategies .
• Objectives:
  Provision of essential Provision of essential various handicrafts, thus generating employment and income opportunities whilst preserving traditional Palestinian skills and promoting cultural heritage. Promotion of self employment. particularly for young people and women. and development of trade expertise and cultural tourism .
  
• Main activities:
  Publication of promotion handicraft materials; training of handicraftsmen; establishment of a handicraft exhibition trade promotion centre.
