UNESCO underlines dialogue between India, Iran Civilisation

UNESCO Director General Koïchiro Matsuura underlined the need for better coordination and dialogue between India and Iran, two of the world's oldest civilizations, on the cultural 
fronts.

Matsuura said on the sidelines of an exhibition to celebrate the 3000th anniversary of Zoroastrian culture here on Tuesday that India and Iran, being the oldest civilizations, should hold more dialogue which would facilitate exchange of their rich culture, reported Press Trust of India on Wednesday.

The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by Koïchiro Matsuura, Director General, UNESCO in presence of Indian Human Resource Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, Dr Hadi Khaniki, Advisor to the President of Islamic Republic of Iran and Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology and Iranian Ambassador to India Siavash Zargar Yaqoubi among other prominent leaders and personalities at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

The exhibition with 60 stands showcases and display modules on intercultural studies, religion and priesthood, performing arts, ecology and conservation and contributions by members of the  community to life in India, dating back to the Mughal times.

UNESCO general conference at its 31st session in 2001 adopted the 'Celebration of the 3,000th anniversary of Zoroastrian Culture in the year 2003' and the first was initiated by Tajikistan and 
Uzbekistan.
