Round Table: Dialogue among Civilizations
United Nations, New York, 5 September 2000
Provisional verbatim transcription

Address by Richard Bulliet (United States of America)

Mr. Bulliet: I wish to endorse Professor Van Ginkel's comments about education, particularly the teaching of history. In the United States world history is the most rapidly growing area of historical study, particularly at the secondary school level and there is a great deal of agitation among elite historians who feel that it is an impossibility and yet we must do it anyway. But we are lacking adequate international consultation and cooperation and, I choose the word, "dialogue" with respect to what should be in world history as we teach it to our children. I should like to see that as a focus.

Mr. Picco: Ms Cortez-Edwards.
