National PALDIN Workshop, December 2007
A National Workshop on "Designing a Professional Development Program in Adult Education: Participatory Adult Learning Documentation and Information Networking (PALDIN)" took place between December 11th and 14th, 2007 at the Indira Gandhi National Open University in New Delhi. For the workshop 55 learners, course writers and international experts (from UIL Hamburg, READ-Nepal, UNESCO Dhaka, DAM Bangladesh) met to gather feedback http://www.unescon the pilot testing of PALDIN. The Workshop was organised by the Indira Gandhi National Open University in collaboration with the Indian Adult Education Association, the International Institute of Adult and Lifelong Education and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. The possibility of simplifying the course for grassroots level workers was discussed as well as the opportunity to transfer PALDIN to other LIFE countries, such as Nepal and Bangladesh.
Basic cataloguing software for ALADIN Toolkit, August 2007
ALADIN member Sue Adams from Canada has developed a basic template for small libraries and documentation centres that wish to set-up an online catalogue. It is based on the WINISIS software that is developed and provided by UNESCO free of charge.
Start of PALDIN pilot in India, July 2007
The comprehensive learning package on "Participatory Adult Learning Documentation and Information Networking" (PALDIN) for the capacity-building of staff working in adult learning organizations is piloted by students of the Adult Education Department at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi between July and November 2007. The 31 units of the course cover general issues around adult learning and literacy, but the innovative element of the course is that it also includes units about information management in an adult learning set-up, such as creating a literate environment, process documentation, networking, information and communication technologies and basic library management.
National PALDIN Workshop in New Delhi, March 2007
On March 22, 2007, a National Workshop on PALDIN was held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. 0235 participants comprising the course writers, course co-ordinators, subject experts and representatives of selected institutions interested in pilot testing PALDIN attended the workshop. The objectives were to review the two volumes of the draft learning package, to discuss and finalize the evaluation proforma and to formulate strategies for pilot testing the materials.
ALADIN Task Force met at UIL in Hamburg, January 2007
The ALADIN Task Force met from January 9th-11th, 2007 at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in Hamburg, Germany. They have discussed past, present and future ALADIN activities. The most important outcome of the meeting was a re-visited Strategic Plan for ALADIN and a Work Plan for 2007-2009.
