Founded by ADEA in 1989
with UNESCO as the lead agency, WGESA seeks:
to promote
knowledge and information charing in the area of education sector analysis, |
to enhance
dialogue and cooperation among African ministries of education, international funding and
technical assistance agencies, and the research community, |
to change
existing practices in education sector analysis through technical support to innovative
approaches to education sector analysis and through design of initiatives to support
capacity development and institution building in education sector analysis. |
Members of the Group
comprise representatives from African ministries of education, international agencies,
research institutions and universities, and non-governmental organizations. Its activities
are directed by a Steering Committee with representation from the same constituencies.
Objectives
The main goals of the
working group are:
to strengthen national policy-making processes
through improved quality, use and accessibility of education sector analysis |
to promote African capacities and leadership in the
design of national education policies and development cooperation programmes. |
This includes :
promoting country-led rather than agency-driven education sector work; |
promoting the use of African rather than external
expertise to conduct education sector studies; |
fostering improved practices of education sector
analysis through refined methods and approaches; |
