  • Enlaces Coordinación Nacional. Una iniciativa del Ministerio de Educación de Chile. Este se inició en 1993 como un proyecto piloto que buscaba identificar los roles, impactos, costos y beneficios que tiene el uso de computadores y telecomunicaciones en las escuelas chilenas. A partir de 1995, Enlaces se transformó en un proyecto de cobertura nacional tanto para Educación Básica como para Media.

  • Tapori. Le caillou a une place importante chez l'enfant, pour jouer, admirer, collectionner, se battre et se défendre... Chaque enfant Tapori est invité à choisir une pierre qui deviendra précieuse parce-qu'elle porte une histoire. C'est une façon d'apporter une pierre à la lutte contre la misère et de témoigner de sa solidarité. Cette campagne a déjà entraîné près de 2000 enfants, ils ont chacun envoyé leur pierre précieuse, ceci de 40 pays différents. Elles sont actuellement rassemblées à la Maison Tapori, à Treyvaux en Suisse. Pendant toute l'année 1996/1997, tous les enfants sont invités à envoyer à Tapori leur pierre précieuse, avec son histoire, son message. Cette campagne vise à témoigner de la force des enfants, à travers leur logique et leur créativité, pour vivre et construire un monde plus humain et plus harmonieux pour tous, en interpellant les adultes.

  • GT-EAD - Grupo Temático em Educação à Distância. A Portugese language site, including information on distance education in Brazil.

  • Dialogue Between Nations. An electronic communications project providing an educational forum for the self-representation of the world's 300 million Indigenous Peoples, with a focus on methods for conflict resolution, adoption and implementation of indigenous perspectives at local and international levels.   • Free Translation. FreeTranslation.com is an easy-to-use site for rapid translations of foreign language text and web pages.

  • Jornadas Internet en America Latina y el Caribe 18 al 25 de Octubre 1997. El 9 de Marzo de 1996, 100 escuelas del Silicon Valley tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en los "Netdays", jornadas establecidas para impulsar el desarrollo de Internet. Fue tal el exitó que el mismo presidente Clinton decidió ampliarlo a nivel nacional con otras dos Jornadas, una el 12 de Octubre 1996 y otra el 26 de Abril de 1997. Una tercera tuvo lugar el 25 de Octubre 1997 y coincide con la finalización de las jornadas programadas en los países Europeos.

  • The International Center for Transdisciplinary Research (CIRET). Cette association développe l'activité de recherche dans une nouvelle approche scientifique et culturelle - la transdisciplinarité - dans sa tentative de prendre en compte les conséquences d'un flux d'information circulant d'une branche de connaissance à une autre et de créer un lieu de rencontre et de dialogue entre les spécialistes des différentes sciences et ceux des autres domaines d'activité, en particulier, les spécialistes de l'éducation.
    (English) A non-profit organization which aims to develop research in a new scientific and cultural approach - transdisciplinarity - whose aim is to lay bare the nature and characteristics of the flow of information circulating between the various branches of knowledge. The CIRET is a meeting-place for specialists from the different sciences and for those from other domains of activity. A perspective on Learning Without Frontiers from a scientific point of view!

  • The Annenberg/CPB Projects. The site provides online French language courses as well as the Online Guide: an online database on more than 1,500 reform initiatives, resources, organizations, and conferences concerning math and science education. The Annenberg/CPB Project is leader in the US in helping colleges, universities, high schools and community organizations use telecommunications technologies to improve learning for all students, including the growing number of older and part-time students, and informal learners in their homes.

  • La Red Colombiana de Investigadores en el Exterior. Red Caldas, es un programa adelantado por Colciencias desde 1991 con el objeto de canalizar hacia el país parte del potencial investigativo de los colombianos que hoy se encuentran vinculados a centros de investigación y desarrollo tecnológico en el exterior.
    Red Caldas has more than 500 members that receive daily messages via email through the electronic list. In this list many topics are discussed such as the relevance of new policies implemented by the government, difficulties for the new graduates trying to find a job in Colombia, etc. The list also posts job offers, conferences, calls for papers, and helps to resolve questions related with professional matters. Finally, the directory of members is a valuable source that allows the users to establish contacts and exchange information.

  • Global Knowledge Partnership. (Aussi en Français!) The Global Knowledge Partnership web site is the home of a growing partnership and dialogue focused on harnessing knowledge and information as tools of sustainable and equitable development and mobilizing the innovations and resources of the information revolution as tools to empower the world's poor. This partnership and dialogue have their roots in an international conference on Knowledge for Development in the Information Age co-hosted by the World Bank and the Government of Canada in June 1997 in Toronto, in cooperation with a broad range of public and private partners. Planned: Second Global Knowledge Conference in Malaysia, March 7-10, 2000.

  • Red de Complejidad, Caos, Creatividad y otros temas transdisciplinarios (REDCOM). Redcom no es una Institución, tampoco es algo sólido ni jerárquico, Redcom es y busca ser un ESPACIO VIRTUAL de interconexión de investigadores interesados en Complejidad, Caos, Creatividad y otros temas transdisciplinarios. Redcom aspira a no tener un cerebro central, ni una memoria, ni estatutos, ni programas. Redcom es más un Rizoma, una dinámica, un campo de energías en movimiento permanente.

  • Connected magazine. "... decision-making requires the creation of suitable frameworks for knowledge to be shared and developed in collaboration with others. Writing, e-mail, the Web as well as face-to-face meetings, conferences and seminars are the tools used. Writing in this context takes on the form of an on-going dialogue in the search of an increasingly clear understanding of the way things are." Connected provides a platform for exactly that suitable framework the initiator talks about. A comprehensive site with a miriad of articles raising basic questions about cyberspace, and its use.   • The International Development Research Centre. Canada (French version). IDRC (CRDI en Français) is a public corporation created by the Canadian government to help communities in the developing world find solutions to social, economic, and environmental problems through research. IDRC also maintains information networks and forges linkages that allow Canadians and their Southern partners to benefit equally from a global sharing of knowledge. Also information in Spanish.

  • Consortium international francophone de formation à distance - CIFFAD. Ce réseau d'établissements de formation à distance francophones vous donne accès à un véritable carrefour virtuel de la formation à distance en francophonie. La mission du site est : "... d'être un carrefour virtuel francophone utile et convivial servant d'espace de synergie pour le développement de la formation à distance en général et de la formation à distance par le biais des nouvelles technologies de l'information et des communications en particulier au sein de l'espace francophone".
    Vous y découvrirez entre autres choses une boîte à outils pour la formation à distance comprenant entre autres :

  • Vietnam. Site francophone sur le Vietnam a été choisi comme site culturel le plus représentatif sur l'Asie lors d'une conférence sur le WEB à l'Institut du Monde Arabe, le 19-3-1997.

  • World Links for Development (WorLD). A global collaborative learning program sponsored by the World Bank's Economic Development Institute. Apart from the fact that the site is just a very good resource, we include this link here because Learning Without Frontiers collaborates with the WorLD Program in several countries in Africa. While LWF primarily works with teacher training institutes, the WorLD Program links students and teachers in secondary schools in developing countries with their counterparts in industrialized countries for collaborative research, teaching and learning programs over the Internet. The site is available in English, French and Spanish.

  • Acacia Initiative (IDRC). The Acacia Initiative is an international effort to empower sub-Saharan African communities with the ability to apply information and communication technologies to their own social and economic development.
    Acacia est une initiative internationale destinée à conforter les efforts déployés en faveur des collectivités locales de l'Afrique subsaharienne, et notamment leur capacité de mettre les technologies de l'information et de la communication au service de leur développement social et économique.

  • Media Awareness Network. A Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to media education and media issues affecting children and youth. This site contains a wide range of copy-right cleared resources for teachers, some of which include: an electronic "verticle file" of newspaper articles; over one hundred and fifty elementary and secondary lesson plans; an "Issues" section that explores privacy, portrayal of diversity, ownership and media violence; and advice to parents on encouraging media and web literacy in their homes -- to name just a few.   • Comité para Democratização da Informática. The Committee for Computer Science Democratization is made up of a varying number of people who have nothing in common, except for a good idea. Some are programmers or consultants, some are teachers, some are into social change, some are good with their hands and an old, dusty bunch of silicon chips... But they all agree on one goal: " We need to widen access to new knowledge and resources, especially for parts of society on the margin, excluded from mainstream economic and political activity."
    The site features information in Portuguese, English and German.

  • Fundación Omar Dengo. The Foundation Omar Dengo is a pioneer in the introduction of computer technologies, innovative educational programs and new learning environments into the country's public elementary schools system. It stimulates learning processes, creativity and development of thinking skills in public education and in the different situations in which learning takes place.

  • International Institute for Communication and Development. Its mission is to provide advice and information on aspects related to the application of information and communication technology in the South.

  • DevMedia. Devmedia began as an e-mail listserve in 1994 to help exchange information on "Media for Development and Democracy." Now, with Devmedia web site they have a variety of new ways to stay informed and share information. List listserve members and Devmedia web site users generally include people interested in participatory and community uses of media: radio, video TV, and the Internet. (in English, French and Spanish!)

  • Conexiones. Un ambiente de aprendizaje basado en tecnologías de información y comunicaciones. Conexiones es un proyecto de investigación en Informática Educativa de ámbito regional colombiano, que se desarrolla en la Universidad EAFIT, en la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín y en la Caja de Compensación Familiar COMFAMA, con apoyo de COLCIENCIAS y otros organismos nacionales e internacionales.
    CONEXIONES seeks to develop collaborative learning environments based on an education for a sustainable future, where information and communication technologies are incorporated into basic curriculums in order to improve the quality and equity of Colombian education

  • Slide show. Photos taken by children from a primary school in Bangladesh. A view from the slums. Shahidul Alam saw what was happening, and facilitated this exiting project. Accompanying text is also available in Spanish.

  • KIDLINK. Does it all for children from 10-15 years, world-wide (over 80 countries), and since a couple of years already, also in other languages than English.

  • Internet World Wide Namibia Index Page. This extensive site in Namibia (by Namibia's first full commercial on-line Internet Service Provider) contains an extensive database of online newspapers from approximately 90 countries with 1750 listings. Many sites are in English, but other languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish are represented. It may be a little slower then most sites.

  • Rede Nacional de Pesquisa. A Portugese site, based in Brazil. Lots of info, links, and the opportunity to access the Biblioteca Virtual de Língua e Literatura, um repositório experimental da Rede Nacional de Pesquisa.. Home page will also be available in English.

  • Escola do Futuro - University of São Paulo. The University of São Paulo (USP) is developing a project "Escola do Futuro" including the development of the "Biblioteca Virtual do Estudante Brasileiro"; targeted are primary and secondary school teachers and students (around 200.000 schools, 35 million of students and 1,5 million of teachers). Access will be provided through the Interenet.
    In Portugese: A Escola do Futuro desenvolve suas atividades em parceria com instituições públicas e privadas e mais de 22 escolas de São Paulo, de outros estados e do exterior (EUA,Inglaterra, Portugal). Seus projetos são multidisciplinares, abrangendo disciplinas como Biologia, História, Línguas Estrangeiras, Estudos Sociais, Artes, Comunicação e Ecologia, atendendo a mais de 3.000 alunos. Nossos pesquisadores estão trabalhando em frentes de investigação nos âmbitos de :

  • 3ème Journées sur la communication éducative, organisées par la station de radio éducative El Hornero. Il s'agit d'une rencontre entre les élèves, les enseignants, les parents d'élèves et les professionnels des médias afin de discuter autour des médias et de leur influence sur le public, et notamment sur les jeunes.

  • National Telephone Cooperative Association. The National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA), "the voice of rural telecommunications," is a non-profit association representing nearly 500 small and rural telephone cooperatives and commercial companies. Check out their page on "Solutions for Serving Rural Areas in Developing Countries" - It contains information on the role of local community cooperatives in providing telecom services in countries such as Bolivia, the Philippines and Micronesia. This section of the site is in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

  • Agence de la Francophonie. Organisation intergouvernementale de la Francophonie et point de rencontre entre l'Afrique, l'Amérique, l'Asie, l'Europe, le Maghreb, le Machrek et l'Océanie, l'ACCT, devenue en 1996, Agence de la Francophonie, est née d'un idéal: celui de créer, à partir de ses composantes multiculturelles et complémentaires, une communauté qui fasse entendre sa voix dans le dialogue mondial.
