Health education for women and girls

The importance for individual girls, and their communities, for girls' attendance at school and participation in health education is underpinned by:

- children's health being determined their mother's level of education
- educated girls are healthier and, when they become mothers, they are better able to care for their children
- educated girls and women know how to seek prenatal care earlier, give birth to healthier babies, and bring them home to healthier environments
- education increases a woman's ability to create healthy households by benefiting from health information and making good use of health services
- education results in delayed first pregnancy, which in turn means a safer pregnancy.
