  More convergence and integration between current global initiatives was the main message from the meeting of the 5th Working Group on EFA that closed in UNESCO on 21 July. These initiatives include Education for All, the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), the Fast-Track Initiative and the UN Girls’ Education Initiative. The two-day meeting considered ways of improving the timeliness and quality of statistics, enhancing external funding for EFA and particularly the Fast-Track Initiative, strengthening civil society engagement and promoting partnerships with the private sector on EFA. It also examined the Interim Report on the MDG on achieving Universal Primary Education.
