The
participating countries and UNESCO are committed to working
together towards the establishment of a Regional Centre for
Guidance, Counselling and Youth Development for Africa. UNESCO
has approved the establishment of the Centre in Lilongwe,
Malawi has mobilized funds for its construction. In 1998 the
architectural plan was designed and approved by the Office
of the Urban Planning in Malawi and in 1999 City Building
Constructors Limited of Blantyre was selected to ondidate
this work from among several candidates in Malawi. The construction
of the Centre began in February 2000 and is expected to continue
until 2001. Meanwhile, two officials work within an Interim
Centre for Guidance, Counselling and Youth in Lilongwe.
The
Centre will be an academic training Centre. It will train
tutors, teachers and social workers to help young people know
more about entrepreneurship and civic development, promote
creativity and learn how to find sources of raw materials
for small scale enterprises in their leisure time and create
their own entertainment.
Your
contribution to, and support for, the establishment of this
Centre will bring African young people, particularly girls,
closer to realizing their full potential and contribute more
effectively to development. For further information, please
