Winners
of children's contest announced today
November 20, 2002- The
winners of the “Draw me Peace" contest for children aged 4-7
years will be announced today. The Jury of artists and children
that met last week in Paris has selected eighteen winners
representing the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Egypt,
Palestine, Portugal, Czech Republic, Lebanon, Nigeria, South
Africa, Kyrgystan, Spain, India, Kuwait and Iceland. Honourable
Mentions went to 14 other contestants.
“Today, at the beginning of the XXIst century, promotion and
respect of the Rights of the Child must not simply remain
an ideal, but must become a daily reality,” said John Daniel,
UNESCO's Assistant Director-General for Education, in his
message
for today’s International Children’s Rights Day. Winners
will receive educational material such as books, CD-ROMs,
videocassettes and cameras. Postcards will be made out of
the winning drawings and all 680 participants will receive
a CD-ROM featuring all the drawings received.
