World drawing and painting contest for
children aged 4 to 7 years

January - September 2002

They are telling people about the contest, why don't you?

Who are they? What are they doing?

We are pleased to announce that, in order to allow the most recently informed individuals and groups to join us in the contest, and to give everyone time to work without precipitation, we have decided to extend the deadline for submission of artworks by 3 months. Drawings, paintings and registration forms will thus have to be sent to us at the latest by September 30, 2002.

Good luck to all of you, and we hope to hear from you very soon !

Americas : Dr. Josefa Ippolito-Shepherd, Regional Health Education Advisor for the Pan American Health Organization, has disseminated information on the contest to all the school health focal points in the Americas. Argentina : Marisa Labayen, a teacher, asked for information in Spanish on the contest so that her students can take part in it.
Argentina : Maria Silvina Rodriguez, art teacher in a public school, is interessed in participating in the contest with her pupils. Because of the actual economic situation in the country it would be impossible for them or for the school to pay the price to send the art works by post. She asked us if there were another way to send them, at a lower cost.
In such a case, we suggest to send the drawings and the registration form to the national commission of the concerned country, specifying that it has to be transmited to our address.

Argentina : Flavia Giustino, representative of a group of educators living in Buenos Aires asked information about other participants in Argentina, in order to contact them.

Argentina : Mabel Nora Coppini, director of a school in Buenos Aires, mentioned their intention to participate in the contest. Australia : Cora Jafari requested information about the contest.
Bangladesh : Minarul Islam wanted to verify that there was no pre-registration to send drawings. Indeed, participants should just send the art works along with the completed registration form. Bangladesh : Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, from Dhaka, expressed the desire of his daughter Sharika to join the contest and asked a registration number for participating.
As we explained that the objective of the contest is to realize a collective work and not to compete alone, M.Chowdhury decided to inform Sharika's art teacher at "Studio of Creative Art", Dhaka, and ask him to organize a team. As the deadline has been extended to the end of September 2002, "it's an adequate time to achieve some good works by them", he said.
Belarus : the gymnasium (school) n°10 of the city of Minsk is ready to participate in the contest. Brazil : Teachers of the Elvira Brandão School were wondering what size for the drawings.
Each drawing has to be in a A3  paper, and the final work will be componed of 6 A3 sheets... (and not 6 drawings joined on a same A3 sheet).
Brazil : The Association of Assistance to Minors of Olinda, Pernanbuco, sent its first pictures from children participating in the contest. Eliane Rangel, Coordinator for this area reports: "The children who drew these are from the super-needy communities of Olinda; if they were not at the AMO school they would all be in the street. They are children from a neighbourhood with a highly violent atmosphere and are considered to be at high risk. Thanks to Living Values, they have become more aware of peace and started changing acts of violence into acts of peace. These drawings are from their own creativity, because they believe in Peace. The children are now making a conscientious effort to work with their families." A selection of the drawings can be viewed on the LVEP website.

Brazil : UNESCO's Office in Brasilia disseminated information about the contest in Brazil through various communication means and established a link to our pages on its web site.

Of course yes ! The contest "Draw me Peace" is aimed at every group of child of 4 to 7 years, as far as they are in situation to realise a collective work !

Colombia : the Network of Ludotecas in Cundinamarca, composed by 65 ludotecas, has worked from the month of April in the contest. They have around 300 drawings to participate in the contest that come from 60 municipalities of low resources. But the postmail would be too expensive. They wanted to know if it would be possible to scan the drawings and to send them via email.
It would be better to send the art works themselves. Like for their colleagues from Argentina, we suggested them to send or to deposit the drawings (with their inscription forms) to the UNESCO's national commission, charging them to transmit us.
