ADEA Biennial 2006: High level policy and resource allocation meeting – an invitation to join the Internet Forum

The Association for Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) will have their next Biennial meeting in Gabon 28-31 March 2006. At this meeting, high level education policy makers in Africa, bilateral and multilateral agencies, regional and international experts will meet to improve their strategies and plans for the development of education in Africa. There will be three main themes at the meeting:

Early Childhood Care and Education,
Quality in Primary Education, and
Literacy.

The UNESCO Institute for Education (UIE) together with the Working Group on Non-Formal Education (WGNFE) and the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) will be responsible for the content under the literacy theme. Studies commissioned for the Biennial will investigate literacy from historical, structural, linguistic, socio-economic and political perspectives within the African continent. To paint a more comprehensive picture on literacy, other developing regions will be asked to provide lessons learnt and good and promising practices.  The findings from the study are expected to give its long due prominence and political visibility in order to influence policies and resource allocation for literacy for all.

To follow the process of the studies and the literacy theme we have created a web forum at
