Van loaded with computers and sewing machines donated to centre for environmental education in Chad

Si
nce 1996 the UNESCO Institute for Education (UIE) has supported the CREFELD environmental education centre (Centre Régional d’Education et de Formation Environnementale pour Lutter contre la Désertification dans le bassin tchadien), which provides environmental education and vocational training for participants from several countries in the Lake Chad region with a focus on fighting desertification. In partnership with the Hamburg Senator for Environment and Urban Development, the mayor of Hamburg and the North German Foundation for Environment and Development, UIE handed over a van loaded with 35 computers and a set of sewing machines to the CREFELD co-ordinator on May 18, 2005. The equipment will be most useful for people, especially women, participating in environmental and vocational education activities at the CREFELD centre in Sarh, Chad. To support the UN Decade of Education for Sustaínable Development, UIE and its partners are happy to contribute effectively to the CREFELD Centre's efforts.
