International Meeting: The Making of Literate Societies Revisited (Hamburg, 5 – 7 November 2001)

The Making of Literate Societies Revisited is the theme of an international meeting to be held at the UIE in Hamburg from 5 – 7 November 2001, bringing together some 50 literacy experts, decision-makers and educational reformers from all over the world. The purpose of the meeting is to engage in an exchange of ideas and information about the possibilities and limits of innovative literacy programmes, using examples from South America and Africa. The meeting is being organized by the UNESCO Institute for Education (UIE), in cooperation with the Literacy Section of UNESCO, the German Foundation for International Development and the University of Hamburg.
