The World Bank is in the process of reviewing its policies and practices with respect to ANFE promotion and the role of these programmes in their efforts to achieve Education for All and to accomplish the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The aim of the meeting is to seek the advice of partner agencies and of concerned countries in order to achieve greater coherence in activities and better acknowledgement of what is most needed in the field. In addition the meeting will prepare a policy document on literacy.

The meeting is being organized by the Human Development Network/Education of the World Bank and the UNESCO Institute for Education (UIE) in Hamburg.
