UNESCO/UIE Adult Literacy Exchange
Network on Developing Countries
This publication is the result of many years of data gathering and networking. The UNESCO/UIE Literacy Exchange Directory will become, we are convinced, a unique reference guide for researchers, decision-makers and practitioners. For each of the 593 entries from more than 110 countries, the directory gives postal and electronic addresses, the type of organization, its working languages, the nature of work and the fields of specialization. In the introductory section, these individual data are analyzed and presented in a series of tables thus giving the reader an overview of this network. Hitherto “invisible”, the network required such an instrument to become active and stimulate reciprocal cooperation between its members. A similar instrument, published few years ago for the industrial countries, proved to be very useful to that end. This new directory and the potential
network it represents will constitute an important information base and
distinctive nexus for the ongoing development of UIE’s larger interactive
network of adult education documentation centres, the Adult Learning Documentation
and Information Network, now called the ALADIN project.
