Working
Group on Education for
All to meet tomorrow
|
| |
The first meeting of the
Working Group on Education
for All opens tomorrow morning
at UNESCO headquarters in
Paris. Some forty individuals
representing countries,
regional organizations,
and national and international
non-governmental organizations,
as well as bilateral and
multilateral donor agencies,
the Organisation for Economic
Co-operation and Development
(OECD), the European Commission,
and the G8 will attend the
meeting. Observers will
be admitted to the meeting
that ends on Friday. |

The meeting will be opened
by the Director-General
of UNESCO and chaired
by the Assistant Director-General
for Education a.i. Its
aim is:
- to report on the progress
made both at national,
regional and international
level following the
World Education Forum
(Dakar, Senegal, April
2000)
- to discuss in depth
selected topics of particular
interest for the follow-up
to the Dakar Forum,
namely:
-
how to help countries
produce their Education
for All action plans
and how nationally
developed action plans
can be linked with
other plans, strategies
and policy frameworks
-
how the international
community can best
support national Education
for All efforts in
terms of resource
mobilization
-
how the Education
for All process can
best be monitored
nationally, regionally
and internationally.
- to help shape the
agenda of the informal,
flexible, High-Level
group that will be
convened by UNESCO's
Director General in
April 2001.

The Working Group meeting
is organized just six months
after the World Education
Forum that designated UNESCO
to lead and co-ordinate
the global activities of
the renewed drive to provide
Education for All by 2015.
