Get involved in the “World Philosophy Day” on 18 November 2010

12-11-2010

In preparation of the World Philosophy Day, 18 November 2010, UNESCO Associated Schools are cordially invited to join an online forum of a group of young philosophers. Ongoing discussions concern issues such as

  • "Does civilization stem from competition?"
  • "Research and truth"
  • "Love and pessimism"
  • "Facebook, opinion and being faithful to oneself"

The online discussion takes place on a new Facebook account, called “World Philosophy Day”. This forum is an opportunity for students to get in touch with people interested in philosophy from all over the world, as well as express their own voice.

The discussions that will come out of this forum will be further developed in “Café Philo”, a meeting of young philosopher at UNESCO Headquarter in Paris on 18 November 2010, from 10h30 to 12h00.

World Philosophy Day is celebrated at UNESCO’s initiative every third Thursday of November since 2002. The events organized by UNESCO, or by its partners, will be an opportunity to make philosophical reflection accessible to all (professors and students, scholars and the general public, the young and the less young), thereby enlarging the opportunities and spaces for the stimulation of critical thinking and debate.

This year, a special event will take place on 18 November at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on philosophy, cultural diversity and the rapprochement of cultures, thereby contributing also to the celebration of the International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2010).
