UNESCO Associated Schools showcase good practices in Millennium Development Goals and Education for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific region
The Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) has just published the Regional Collection of Good Practices – Millennium Development Goals and Education for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific Region.
This publication presents a sample of good practices implemented by the UNESCO Associated Schools (ASPnet) network in Asia and the Pacific Region. The publication, supported by UNDP Republic of Korea, also gives practical ESD guidelines for a better understanding of its role in relation to the MDGs.
The publication followed a Good Practices Development Project in 2009 involving UNESCO Associated Schools in the Asia-Pacific region. Nine selected school-based projects from five countries (Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan) serve as an example of how the themes of ESD and the MDGs can be interpreted within a particular learning context. They address sub-themes in all ESD dimensions, such as indigenous knowledge, climate change, biodiversity and poverty reduction.
It is hoped that this publication will serve as a source of inspiration for ASPnet schools worldwide to strengthen their commitment towards MDGs and ESD, and encourage other world regions to pursue a similar project in cooperation with the ASP network.
The distribution of is an integral part of ASPnet’s strategy in terms of knowledge-sharing for the promotion of Quality and Relevant Education within the framework of Education for All.
