Belém, 29/11/2009 - On December 2nd, during the Sixth International Conference on Adult Education – CONFINTEA VI - UNESCO Brasilia Office will launch the publication “O Pequeno livro das grandes emoções" [the small book of great emotions], a collection of easy reading and involving literary texts specially selected for young and adults readers.
The publication was prepared within the framework of the United Nations Literacy Decade (2003-2012) and gathers together poems, tales, and lyrics of recognized Brazilian writers. Its main objective is to stimulate adult learners to read during their learning process. The book is the result of a partnership with the Secretariat for Continuing Education, Literacy and Diversity – SECAD, from the Ministry of Education, and responds to an education demand for literary texts easy and enthralling to read, focused on adult learning.
The book will be the main instrument of a reading workshop organized in Belém, Pará State, for students and teachers of the adult education sector. The workshop will take place on December 2nd and 3rd, in ‘Centro de Estudos Supletivos Professor Luiz Otávio Pereira’, and is part of the official timetable of the CONFINTEA VI. It will be coordinated by the writer and professor Maria Valéria Rezende, awarded in second place of Jabuti Literature Prize in 2009.
The workshop will have the participation of Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, designated UNESCO Special Envoy on Literacy for Development.
