Where can I find information about a higher education institute?
-
Institutional accreditation is normally decided by the national competent bodies in each country. Before you consult with one of the national bodies, data is available in both CD-ROM, print and online formats taken from a compilation of higher education institutions offering at least a postgraduate degree or a professional diploma in at least four years. The information in the compilation is gathered by the International Association of Universities (IAU) – an NGO based at UNESCO HQ in Paris, France. These directories comprise the World Higher Education Database (WHED) and the International Handbook of Universities (both print and online) and can be ordered at www.unesco.org/iau/directories/index.html
list of institutions only is available on the Association’s website on www.unesco.org/iau/onlinedatabases/list.html
IAU does not itself accredit these institutions – it collects information from the national competent bodies in each country and makes it available in a comparable way through its various reference guides.
