Bamako+5 conference on Contractual Teachers, Mali, 27-29 October 2009

27-10-2009

The Bamako+5 conference is a follow up to the 2004 conference and explores the current trend of contractual teachers in Anglophone and Lusophone Africa, within the context of the lack of teachers needed to achieve Education for All.

The conference (so named because it takes place 5 years after the first one) will offer a platform to share good practices in recruitment, training, professional development and management of teachers’ careers.

Alongside the conference, UNESCO organised two work days (25-26 October 2009) on Teacher Training Initiative for Sub-Saharan Africa’s (TTISSA) achievements and how they can be pursued in the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa. The side event also looked at ICTs for the development of the teaching profession.

Bamako+5 has been organized by ADEA, Education International and the World Bank.
