Regional training workshop on Early Childhood Care and Education in Beirut
05-11-2009
Practitioners from Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, the Syrian Arab Republic and Lebanon will participate in a five-day training workshop on early childhood care and education organized by the International College in Beirut and UNESCO Cairo from 7 to 11 November 2009.
The training, given by two preschool directors, will include exposure to participatory learning methods, techniques for working with young children and visits to pre-school classes.
Participants are mainly school coordinators, ministry officials and academics involved in the field of early childhood care and education.
Despite a 26 per cent increase since 1999, enrolment in pre-primary education in the Arab region remains low (18 per cent). Lebanon is among the exceptions with an enrolment of 64 per cent; Yemen stands at the other end of the spectrum with just 1 per cent.
