Networking

A third dynamic is networking and institutional cooperation in research, knowledge creation and sharing. UNESCO's regional Higher Education conferences have underlined the importance of regional spaces for higher education inspired by the Bologna model in Europe such as the Brisbane Communiqué in Asia and the Pacific, the African Union Harmonization Strategy for Higher Education and the ENLACES for Latin America. UNESCO has facilitated six regional conventions on the recognition of qualifications that have been ratified by over 100 member states. These conventions, together with regional quality assurance frameworks are building blocks in constructing these regional higher education spaces Higher education systems cannot prosper without the sharing of knowledge. UNESCO facilitates this collaboration through a system of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN networks, through capacity building, support for research and close working ties with governments, universities, non-governmental organizations and the private sector in all regions.
