UNESCO Chair in Human Rights (583), established in 2002 at the American University in Cairo (Egypt).


Human Rights.


  • The purpose of the Chair shall be to promote an integrated system of research, education, information and documentation in the field of human rights.
  • It will serve as a means of facilitating collaboration between high-level internationally recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University and other institutions in Egypt and other countries, in particular in Arab States.
  • The activities in the field of human rights will be based on the international standards enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in the International Covenants on Human Rights and in other relevant standard-setting instruments, on the principles of universality, indivisibility and interdependence of all human rights as well as on the principles of equality between men and women.
