UNESCO Chair in marine technology (847), established in 2009 at the University of Dar es Salaam (United Republic of Tanzania).
Marine technology, marine sciences, natural resources and sustainable development.
The Specific objectives of the Chair shall include:
- Developing and implementing new post graduate courses which are relevant to national and regional needs.
- Engage in internationally recognized joint research and to provide advice of strategic importance in the management of coastal and marine resources in Tanzania, East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean region.
- Establishment of professional development and continuing education and staff training at the institutional level and at the wider community and policy level; and to increase gender parity through the numbers of women taking part in research and courses offered by the North-South marine sciences partnership.
- Improve networking and exchange of marine information between partner institutions north-south and south-south; and to improve management and administration of research, education and knowledge transfer between marine partners and local, national, regional and international communities.
