UNESCO-COL Chair in Distance Education (920) , established in 2011 at the Open University of Sri Lanka and  the Commonwealth of Learning  (COL).

Objectives

The specific objectives of this Chair are to:

  • identify distance education research priorities and conduct studies accordingly;
  • promote a culture of research and scholarship by conducting a series of research methodology workshops and seminars to discuss outcomes of research projects, and to help young researchers identify sources of funding and channels for dissemination of findings;
  • provide feedback and research outcomes to the governing bodies including Faculty Boards and the Senate, to improve programmes of study with respect to quality assurance of curricula, teaching-learning materials, use of open education resources (OER), and on-line delivery; and,
  • facilitate regional collaboration to expose the OUSL’s academic staff to the developments in the other ODL institutions in the region, and help them to share experience at international conferences, as well as to publish their findings in the national and international referred research journals.
