Objectives
The specific objectives of this Chair are to:
- foster the systematization of research on carnival and heritage from an interdisciplinary perspective;
- study the economic and sociological impact of carnival, bearing in mind that culture should contribute to sustainable development and the welfare of local communities;
- design public policies and enhance capacity-building to ensure the safeguarding of intangible heritage; and,
- create a research network and increase knowledge-sharing so as to bolster North-South and North-South-South cooperation, with the active participation of the public and private sectors, including NGOs, the civil society and local communities.
