Evidence says the millennium goals are "within reach"
A synthesis of evidence from around the world, released by the United Nations Development Programme, vividly illuminates for the international community the path to creating a more healthier and richer world it envisioned a decade ago when it adopted the Millennium Development Goals.
The publication, titled “The path to achieving the Millennium Development Goals: A synthesis of evidence from around the world”, draws upon the national experience of 34 countries — 20 of which are in Africa — that have completed their national MDG assessments and shows trends in progress, successes, failures and the impact of the recent global crises. Social Sciences: 2010 World Report observes growth in emerging countries
Social science from Western countries continues to have the greatest global influence, but the field is expanding rapidly in Asia and Latin America. In sub-Saharan Africa, social scientists from South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya produce 75% of academic publications. In South Asia, social sciences as a whole have low priority. These are a few of the findings from World Social Science Report, 2010: “Knowledge divides”, launched on 25 June 2010 at UNESCO in Paris (France).
