Albania is proud that its partnership with UNESCO is built upon real dialogue and solid communication with special focus towards the realization of concrete projects in education, science and culture. The new goal, Education for All, is one of the most important steps in the framework of Human Rights and of the Decade of the United Nations for Education for Sustainable Development.
“Under the guidance of UNESCO standards and based on the Bologna process, Albania has undertaken and successfully accomplished the reform of the educational sector with a purpose of improving the quality of education at all levels, especially in the context of higher education, as a prerogative for the development of science and technology.”
Albania is also focused on the protection and the preservation of its cultural heritage. Supported by UNESCO’s expertise, Albania was able to create national sustainable legislation in order to protect cultural and natural sites.
Furthermore, the Albanian Government has recently donated to UNESCO a fund of $1.4 million for the restoration of the historical centre of Gjirokastra. Albania is also grateful for recognising Berat, the oldest city in Albania, as part of the World Heritage.
“We continue building bridges of cooperation by using culture and cultural diversity as a tool for better improving human relations and solving conflicts in the region. Kosovo is one of them and we strongly believe that only by improving the understanding towards cultural heritage, cultural diversity and yet cultural dialogue and communications as means for cohabitation between Albanians and Serbs, Kosovo can go ahead towards its path of independence and self-affirmation.”
