L’une des principales difficultés auxquelles se heurte la communauté internationale tient au manque de données fiables et comparables sur l’état de l’alphabétisation dans le monde. L’UNESCO s’emploie à créer des systèmes viables pour définir et évaluer le taux d’alphabétisation ainsi que l’acquisition des compétences en lecture, écriture et calcul à l’échelle nationale et internationale. L’UNESCO évalue le taux d’alphabétisation dans le monde tout en mesurant l’efficacité des programmes d’alphabétisation en cours et l’impact de la progression du taux d’alphabétisation.
