Objectives
- To investigate and assess claims made that HIV and AIDS is a national and international security issue in Africa. In particular the Chair will investigate claims relating to the impact of high HIV prevalence on state stability in Africa; on the relative vulnerability of security forces, including peacekeepers, to HIV infection; and on the relationship between conflict and the spread of HIV in Africa.
- To map policy responses to HIV and AIDS in Africa, in particular those related to or driven by security concerns and including AIDS education policies; and to assess the effectiveness of policies for HIV and AIDS relief based on security concerns.
- To network with other scholars working in the field to better understand the relationship between HIV, AIDS and security in Africa.
