2007-08 Fulbright New Century Scholars on “Access and Equity”
The Orientation and Goal Setting Seminar for the new Scholars will be taking place in February 2007. Scholars will also initiate their work in three focus groups corresponding to the three themes related to the central NCS topic of access and equity in higher education: 1) the cultural and societal norms that affect access and equity; 2) the role of K-16 in limiting or advancing access to higher education; and 3) the resources and polices that provide greater access to higher education.

Latest news from the Higher Education Academy (UK)
The Widening Participation Research Service (WPRS) is now available. This service offers support to all staff in higher education with a widening participation remit. It provides access to research information, services and resources thereby supporting the embedding of diversity and widening participation across the student life cycle.

Embracing Diversity Seminar Series: Connecting Research & Practice (UK)
The Higher Education Academy and Action on Access are running a series of four seminars in different locations to bring together staff with an active widening participation or diversity brief. These seminars will form part of the Academy’s Widening Participation Research Service and will assist the development of evidence-based practice as diversity and widening participation becomes increasingly important to HE institution’s mission and strategy.
Bookings are now being taken for the 25th January seminar in London, the 22nd March seminar in Manchester and the 23rd May seminar in Newcastle.

The Institute for Higher Education Policy (Washington, DC) establishes a Global Policy Fellows Program (GPFP)
The GPFP is a 3-year program for early career research and policy professionals who are dedicated to improving postsecondary education policies to bring about positive economic and social development around the world. Potential areas of exploration include admissions and testing, science and technology, higher education finance, infrastructure capacity, privatization, and higher education preparation. Participants will work in teams with colleagues from their home countries as well as participants from other countries.
