Come and explore whether and how today and tomorrow’s universities
respond to the expectations of society. Higher Education and
Research Addressing Local and Global Needs, the theme of the
13th General Conference, echoes the very reasons that led to the
creation of the Association 60 years ago, namely the responsibilities
of higher education and research institutions to serve the world around
them
Take
part in the IAU elections for
President and Administrative Board
The General Conference, composed of all IAU Members in good standing,
is also the IAU Supreme
Decision-Making body. The Conference serves to take stock
of what has been achieved and it is during the Business sessions that
all activities are being revised and that the general strategy for the
association is set. It is the exclusive right of the General
Conference to adopt Policy Statements or issue Declarations of
Principles that will represent the voice of IAU and serve as advocacy
platforms for the Association. It is also on that occasion that
the IAU President and Administrative
Board Members are elected.
Help
celebrate 60 years of IAU
The 13th IAU General Conference marks 60 years of the International
Association of Universities (IAU)! It was in August 1948, in Utrecht, under the Patronage of the Dutch Royal House
and of the Government of the Netherlands that UNESCO called for a Preparatory Conference of University
Representatives worldwide. This Conference eventually led to the
founding
of IAU two years later in Nice, the objective being to create
close collaborative links between Universities and other Higher
Education Institutions around the world in order to restore and
guarantee peace among peoples and nations ravaged by WWII. Today, if
the challenges are not exactly the same, cooperation, knowledge and understanding
however remain central pillars on which higher education rests
worldwide.
