NEWSLETTER SPECIAL ISSUE
The Eleventh IAU
General Conference took place in Durban, South Africa, from 22 to 25
August,
2000. It marked the Fiftieth Anniversary of the creation of the
Association,
under the auspices of UNESCO, in Nice in 1950.
The Conference,
hosted by the University
of Natal (external link), in collaboration with SAUVCA (external
link), the South African Universities Vice-Chancellors Association,
provided an occasion for some 300 higher education leaders from all
over the
world to discuss, at the dawn of the new millennium, the role of
Universities
as Gateway to the Future and to share their experience and reflections
in
setting an agenda for higher education for the twenty-first
century.
