List of Universities
and Other Institutions of Higher Education

The biennial publication of the World List of Universities and Other
Institutions of Higher Education, released alternately with the International Handbook of Universities
was replaced, in 2008, by an annual publication of the Handbook.
The sister publication to the
International Handbook of Universities, the World List of Universities had been
a concise information resource on higher education worldwide since
1952.
The last edition (25th) - published in 2006 - provided data on over
17,500 universities and other institutions worldwide which offer
terminal degrees after three to four years studies. The listing of each
institution included: name of institution in English, then in the
language of the country, address/telephone/fax/web site/electronic
mail, officers’ names with direct contact details, listing of
faculties, departments and major subject areas, date of foundation.
Details were also provided on all major national academic bodies
directly concerned with higher education as well as on agencies dealing
with recognition of degrees.
