International Projects

African Virtual University (external link) – Université Virtuelle Africaine – Universidade Virtual Africana
First a project of the World Bank, it has been transformed to an independent inter-governmental organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and has now over 34 Learning Centers in 19 African countries  

AVICENNA Project (external link) 
A project supported by UNESCO, which is dedicated to accelerating the adoption and best use of ICT-assisted Open Distance Learning (ODL) in 11 Mediterranean non-EU Member States (MNMS), by establishing adequate local infrastructures and to transfer best practice and professional know-how within target universities.

Campus Numériques Francophones (external link) du Programme IV (Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication et Appropriation des Savoirs de l’AUF
Programme de l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie pour une facilitation de l’accès aux TIC et à la FOAD pour les Universités Francophones du Monde. Actuellement, il existe plus de 30 Campus Numériques de par le Monde.

EuroPACE (external link)
Towards a Virtual University for Europe: A trans-European network of universities and their partners in education and training, i.e. private enterprises, regional and professional organisations and public authorities. Approximately 60 member organisations (45 of them universities) participate in this network throughout Europe.

Universitas 21 (external link)
An international network of 17 universities in 10 countries encouraging student exchange programs and sharing of learning material. This consortium of universities in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia has created an online university, Universita 21 Global.

MITOpenCourseWare (external link)
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was one of the first higher education institution to offer its courses freely on the Web.

UniversitySurf (external link)
Free E-learning portal. Follows the principle of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) project to publish free on-line courses, as well as the projet d'université médicale virtuelle francophone – UMVF created in August 2003.

Online Database on distance teaching institutions and their courses.

Newsweek Distance Learning website (external link)
Free database of online degrees and continuing education programs. You can search nearly 3,000 programs mostly from around the U.S.

Infotheque (external link)
Portal developed by the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie of francophone free online courses.

Directory of Online Colleges, Universities and Training Institutes (external link) by Lifelong Learning, Vermont
Accredited or professionally recognized institutions offering degrees and courses through mail, fax or online in the US exclusively.

Global Network Academy (external link)
More than 30 000 courses in the US organized by topics by a non-profit organization: GNA.

ELEARNINGEUROPA.INFO (external link)
A portal presenting e-Learning projects and events in Europe.
